Why not brighten your home this New Year with glass bangles tea light candle? It is fun and easy to make and you can involve your toddler in this project. All you need is unused glass bangles that is long forgotten and stored away in a box. Thanks to my aunts who gave their unused glass bangles for this DIY project.

I love upcycling various unused things at home that are lying dormant, converting them to something useful or fancy. The end result is surprising when you give those unused things a complete makeover.

What is Upcycling?

Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value. The goal of upcycling is to prevent wasting potentially useful materials by making use of existing ones. This reduces the consumption of new raw materials when creating new products. Reducing the use of new raw materials can result in a reduction of energy usage, air pollution, water pollution and even greenhouse gas emissions.

Glass Bangles:

In India, wearing bangles are considered auspicious and forms an inevitable part of a woman’s ornaments, especially during special occasions like wedding and baby showers.

In South Indian custom, a function is held for expecting mothers called “Valakkapu & Seemantham” (Bangle ceremony for expecting mother part of the Baby shower) during seventh or eighth month gestation where the elders in the family and friends bless the mother and the baby for a safe delivery and happy motherhood. As part of the custom, the expecting mother wears glass bangles during her “Valakkapu & Seemantham”. It is believed that the tinkling sound of the glass bangles comforts the baby in the womb. (What a lovely concept!)
